Red Rock Canyon tour resuming this week

It’s baaaaaccckkkk!

Our popular Red Rock Canyon tour, presumably on hiatus for the winter season, is making a welcome and unexpected return starting Tuesday (Jan. 10). The tour officially ended Dec. 1 and
was replaced by the seasonal Ethel M Chocolate Factory lighted cactus garden tour, which concluded Jan. 1, and briefly by the Clark County Museum tour. The latter was earmarked to last through winter, but with mild weather forecast for the immediate future, we decided to resume our weekly visits months ahead of schedule. We’ll depart every Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the main lobby. The tour lasts two hours and includes a trip around the famous 13-mile Scenic Loop. Sure you could take your own car, but what fun would that be? Leave the driving to us, sit back, relax and take in the grandeur of one of the world’s scenic wonders with your fellow owners and guests. It’s a great reminder that Las Vegas is much more than the Strip, shows and all-you-can-eat buffets.

Bring in the New Year with us at Tahiti Village

Tahiti Village is bringing in 2012 with “An Eve in Paradise.” Join us Dec. 31 in our 10th floor Owners Lounge from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. for what we’re guessing will be the only New Year’s Eve bash in Las Vegas featuring Grand Marnier chocolate strawberries. The party will culminate with a spectacular Strip fireworks display you can view from our spacious balcony.

The party also includes an open bar, live entertainment and dancing, a chilled seafood appetizer bar, fresh fruit, assorted cheeses, hats and party favors, and a complimentary New Year’s Eve photo souvenir. Last year’s event drew 82 partygoers, and we’re expecting even more this year. This is the kind of extravaganza so many New Year’s parties aspire to but utterly fail to achieve.

“We are looking forward to counting down 2011 and getting 2012 started off on the right foot,” said Stacy Pickett, banquet and catering manager for Tahiti Joe’s, which is providing the food and beverages. “This is going to be our best New Year’s Eve party yet.”

Tickets are $115 plus tax and available at the Tahiti Village front desk or concierge and through our catering department at 702-440-6945. Must be 21 to attend.

25 couples say `I do’ at Tahiti Village on 11-11-11

Nov. 16,
2011 –
11-11-11 marked the most popular wedding day of the year at Tahiti Village, with twenty-five couples saying “I do” at locations throughout the resort. Brides and grooms reserved our Beach, Waterfall and Gazebo for their ceremonies. You may think Valentine’s Day would have set the record for weddings in a single day this year, but it didn’t come close to Nov. 11.  “Believe it or not, Valentine’s was not a busy wedding day compared to 11-11-11,” said Stacy Pickett, Tahiti Village banquet and catering manager. “And so far we do not have any weddings booked for next Valentine’s Day.”  She adds the most popular wedding dates next year  are 10-11-12 and 12-12-12. The single-day record of 27 weddings was set on 9-10-11.

Weddings went off virtually every half hour between 1 and 10 p.m. on 11-11-11.  “We have 18 people working in teams out here today,” said Ann Parsons of Vegas Weddings, which coordinated the revolving door of sequined dresses and black tuxedos. The volume of weddings on 11-11-11provides a timely reminder that we can host your next celebration with style and elegance. “One call can do it all,” Stacy says. “We can arrange everything from the food and drinks to the band and the flowers.” Whether it’s a wedding, reception, reunion, meeting, birthday or anniversary, Tahiti Village can provide complete banquet and catering services for groups from 15 to 300. To arrange your special party or event please contact our banquet department at (702) 440-6945 or [email protected]tahitivillage.com.

Standard Resort Fee Effective Now

The implementation of our new standard resort fee on bookings effective November 1 gives retail guests a taste of vacation ownership, allowing them to experience the inclusive nature of the many added resort benefits owners enjoy.

The $10 a day resort fee will cover the expense of a variety of amenities and activities for which we traditionally charged retail guests on an as-needed basis. We have received much feedback from retail guests requesting a simpler structure that a flat resort fee allows. The new flat fee permits a more formal participation by retail guests in the costs and enjoyment of the added resort benefits we offer. The new policy also has the potential to save guests money over the course of their visit depending on their level of activity.
The standard resort fee includes, but is not limited to, use of the following added benefits:

Free Wi-Fi internet access in public areas. Under our previous policy we charged $10 a day for wireless access to hotspots in the lobby, Tahiti Joe’s and the 10th floor owners’ lounge in Tower Five.

Free Lazy River inner tube rentals
. We charged $5 per person per day on tube rentals for our popular Lazy River attraction.

Free onsite resort activities. They ranged from $4 to $8, with the majority of them $5. We have many to choose from, including cookie decorating, bingo and water activities.

Free local phone calls
. Now retail guests have the convenience of a room phone without the traditional $1 cost of a local call.

Faxes (incoming and outgoing). This one was a longtime coming for our loyal business travelers.

We are also including use of the fitness centers and shuttle service to and from the Strip in the resort fee. These were originally designed as owner-exclusive benefits, but we have included them in the resort fee because of the added value they provide our retail guests. Few Las Vegas resorts provide transportation to and from the Strip.   Ultimately, we think the new standard resort fee will be a win-win for owners and guests.

“Dive-In Movie” drawing rave reviews

We are happy to report our new resort activity, Dive-In Movie, has been a big success in its limited first run and will receive the star treatment with an extended engagement next summer. Dive-In Movie, a fun pairing of unlikely activities (going swimming and watching movies), debuted Oct. 8 with “Rush Hour 2,” the first in a series of Las Vegas-themed movies, on our giant poolside screen.

“People have really enjoyed it,” Tahiti Village general manager Mike Rounds said. “A lot of them asked why we haven’t been doing this all along.”

We screened “21” on Friday, Oct. 14, and “Ocean’s 13” on Oct. 21. For the last Friday of the month, Oct. 28, we’ll present a Halloween-themed movie (“Hocus Pocus”) in place of  the originally planned “Viva Las Vegas.” Weather permitting, we may extend Dive-In Movie through the first two weeks of November. We will conduct an email survey next year to let you help decide the movie lineup for next summer. Dive-In Movie is the result of feedback from owners requesting more pool activities.

Admission is free, and so is the popcorn and lemonade. We also have a limited Dive-In Movie menu from Tahiti Joe’s that includes hot wings, chili nachos, chicken quesadillas, pizza, candy and soda.

Swimming and a movie: We can’t think of a better way to spend a leisurely Friday evening at Tahiti Village. Showtime coincides with sunset, about 6:30 p.m. Stay tuned for its reopening next season.

Summer luau comes to an end

It had to end sometime, and it turns out that sometime was Sept. 24. The good news is, we are making plans even now to ensure that when our hugely popular luau returns (check back here for updates), it will be bigger and better than the one that attracted sellout crowds much of the summer.

As many of you know, the weekly Saturday luau is a poolside event featuring authentic hula dancers, island songs and a delicious Polynesian-style buffet courtesy of our own Tahiti Joe’s.

“Our luau routinely drew more than 300 guests every week,” said Stacy Pickett, Tahiti Joe’s general manager. “It was so popular we even extended it an extra two weeks due to the outpouring of requests.”

“It’s amazing how many inquiries we’ve had about extending the luau into winter,” added Tahiti Village general manager Mike Rounds. “It just illustrates how great food and entertainment, served up in a wonderful environment, can bring people together.”

A  lucky few of them (pictured below) won free tickets (a $24 value) during our weekly drawing.  We thank them and everyone who attended our luau, and hope you’ll join us for more tropical fun next summer. We’re not sure what’s in store, but you can believe it will be the envy of luaus the world over (and maybe some bar mitzvahs).

Luau extended two more big weeks!

Too hot!

Due to numerous requests asking us to extend our popular weekly summer luau past Labor Day, we have decided to do just that. Following a dark week on Sept. 10 to accommodate previously booked events, we have scheduled luaus the next two Saturdays, Sept. 17 and 24.

Our Labor Day luau was designated the last one of the year, but when it attracted a sold-out crowd of more than 300 owners and guests, marking a 15th straight successful week, we thought, `Who are we to deprive anyone of hula dancers and kalua pork when they’re asking for more’?

“We couldn’t be happier with the response,” general manager Mike Rounds said. “As long as the weather’s nice and we keep getting demand for more, I don’t see why we wouldn’t extend them into fall.”

At this point we’re not sure if we will extend the luau past Sept. 24, so be sure to check back for updates. Admission prices and start time will remain the same. For more information on the luau, please call the front desk at (702) 440-6800.
