Enjoy an evening with the classics at Smith Center

Elena Urioste

If you’re staying at Tahiti Village this weekend and have been meaning to visit the Smith Center, Las Vegas’ lavish new downtown cultural and performing arts center, tomorrow evening, Jan. 12, presents a wonderful opportunity. The Las Vegas Philharmonic is performing a Masterworks concert with works by Ravel, Sibelius and Mozart and a guest appearance by violinist Elena Urioste. Each year the Philharmonic designates one of its Masterworks concerts to showcase a burgeoning talent. This year it is Urioste, a two-time winner of the prestigious Sphinx Competition. She will display her virtuoso talents in Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Bracketing the Sibelius concerto is Ravel’s popular Bolero and Mozart’s Symphony 41, the Jupiter.

Love the cultural offings. We will be staying there MAR 16 -23. Is there anything like this at that time?

Also that day is a 2 p.m. performance of Equus by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV’s Judy Bayley Theatre. Please visit pac.unlv.edu for more information. If you like large green ogres, you may want to catch Shrek The Musical from March 19-24 at the Smith Center. Visit their website at http://www.thesmithcenter.com for additional information.
